Ghost stories for boys and girls

Last month I released 3 variants of the same print on my online store with a ghostly theme to them.

The first version isn't really ghostly at all. Although, the mood of the painting is eerie and mysterious. There's an emptiness in the picture which lends itself to the interpretation of the sinister kind. I'm loving painting cars at the moment. I find retro cars interesting. This is a recent thing, trust me.

Below is the first painting in the series. All the prints are Giclée prints on beautiful German etching paper.

Ghostly Night on 4th Street

I want to depict everyday street or urban scenes and then twist them up a bit with some paranormal or pop cultural reference. In my planning I wanted the space in front of the tree to hold another visual object. A ghostly figure. In the process of painting I liked the empty version so much I decided to make it one of the series... just the street, car and house. A ghost is pretty scary but I think that even more terrifying is a child ghost. A child ghost drives fear into the deepest part of us because of the tragic sadness we associate with such an apparition. So I painted in a young girl ghost and just to make it a little more disconcerting I painted a rabbit mask onto her face. Below is the second version of 'Ghostly Night on 4th Street'.

In the third and last version of this painting I painted in some Minecraft zombies. I like the idea of the digital world invading day to day reality. Also I think the Minecraft zombies are annoying and funny - but would not like to meet them down a dark alley.

The Larger prints are limited edition prints and are 34.4 cm x 51.1 cm, 13.5 inches x 20.1 inches. Smaller versions are available, 11.8 cm x 17.0 cm, 4.6 inches x 6.7 inches. These are not limited editions though.

I hope to post more about my work, critique my techniques and talk other art, film and pop culture subjects. So, bookmark my blog for more.
