The Final Nausicaä Poster

Final poster design for Nuasicaä

When I shared the sketch for this Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind redesign, it was still just an idea in progress—shapes, tones, and moods starting to take form. Now the final piece is here, and I’m excited to show where it landed.

Composition & Characters

On the left, Nausicaä stands grounded and ready, helmet on, rifle resting against the earth. I always wanted her stance to feel steady and protective—not aggressive, but alert.

To the right, the vertical montage plays out: Lord Yupa above as the seasoned guide, Kushana in the middle carrying all the weight of ambition and conflict, and Asbel at the base, the note of resilience and youth. Together, they pull against each other in a kind of visual balance—wisdom, authority, hope.

Air & Earth

Countering her grounded figure, Nausicaä also appears on her glider, carving space into the sky. That duality—poise on the ground, freedom in the air—has always been at the heart of the story for me.

And beneath it all sits the shell of the Ohmu, pulled from that unforgettable early scene. Empty, but powerful, it gives scale to the world while hinting at what’s been lost. It’s both haunting and strangely beautiful.

Color & Mood

The final palette leans into muted earth tones with flashes of turquoise and gold. I wanted the piece to feel reverent but alive—like the Valley itself, full of beauty but edged with tension.

Why It Matters

This poster isn’t just a bit of wall art for me—it’s a way of honoring Nausicaä herself. She’s empathy and resolve at the same time, and that duality feels more relevant now than ever.

The sketch was the seed, but this is the finished piece. I can’t wait for it to hang with people who love this film as much as I do.
