Several accounts collected from the older streets of inner Memphis describe a neon sign appearing after midnight.

The wording is remarkably consistent.

WALK THIS WAY

Witnesses report following the sign only for it to extinguish before they reach it, sometimes reappearing farther along another street.

Attempts to retrace the route have proven unreliable.

One account describes the city itself as having ‘shuffled its streets’.

Most witnesses eventually returned to familiar neighbourhoods.

A small number found somewhere else.
